چکیده

Belton, N. R., Crombie, J. D., Robins, S. P., Stephen, R., and Farquhar, J. W. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 472. Measurement of phenylalanine in routine care of phenylketonuric children. Fluorimetry, paper and column chromatography, and bacterial inhibition assay have been compared in the quantitation of serum or blood phenylalanine at levels ranging from 1 to over 30 mg/100 ml. Special attention was paid to levels of 2 mg or less and to those in excess of 20 mg/100 ml, since these have therapeutic implications. Bacterial inhibition assay, under routine conditions, tended to read low or not at all at 2 mg

Biopterin derivatives in normal and phenylketonuric patients after oral loads of L-phenylalanine, L-tyrosine, and L-tryptophan.

Plasma biopterin derivatives studied in 10 normal and 21 phenylketonuric children showed a significantly high concentration in the latter group. Biopterin derivatives correlated with plasma phenylalanine concentration, but in normal adults given an oral phenylalanine load the rate of increase with phenylalanine differed from that in phenylketonuric patients. A patient with hyperphenylalaninaemi...

Use of micromethod for phenylalanine in management of phenylketonuric patients.

FREATMENT of phenylketonuric infants with low phenylalanine diet requires frequent measurements of blood phenylalanine, since diet must be adjusted to changing phenylalanine requirements. The amount of blood required for repetitive determinations by the usual methods may be excessive. The need for frequent and rapid determinations led us to modify the method for serum phenylalanine (1) to permi...

Aspartame metabolism in normal adults, phenylketonuric heterozygotes, and diabetic subjects.

This study reviews clinical studies testing the effects of various doses of aspartame on blood levels of phenylalanine, aspartate, and methanol in normal subjects and known phenylketonuric heterozygotes. The effect of aspartame on the phenylalanine-to-large neutral amino acid ratio under various feeding situations is shown. The clinical studies of aspartame in diabetic subjects are limited to o...

Detection of heterozygotes for phenylketonuria by constant intravenous infusion of L-phenylalanine.

We measured the rate of elimination of phenylalanine by constant intravenous infusion of L-phenylalanine in 14 parents of children with phenylketonuria and in 21 subjects with a negative family history for this disease. When reciprocals of the observed elimination rates were plotted against the reciprocals of the increase in the plasma phenylalanine concentrations, approximately straight lines ...

Detection of phenylketonuric heterozygotes.

Estimation of plasma phenylalanine and tyrosine by an abridged (30 mm) column chromatography procedure was assessed. Plasma phenylalanine and tyrosine concentrations, determined in 112 phenylketonuric obligate heterozygotes and in 88 normal controls, did not differ significantly from other reported series in which the data were obtained by column chromatography. All these series were combined a...
